Ryman Premier League Billericay Town capped a decent week’s work with a 2-0 success over local rivals Grays Athletic at New Lodge. Prior to the game, manager Craig Edwards announced the exciting signings of former West Ham United man Frazer Shaw and East Thurrock United skipper Steve Sheeham. Watched by a bumper crowd of 420, Ryan Scott fired Town ahead, then ex-Grays striker Chris Benjamin grabbed the second on what was his debut.

Elsewhere, it was a successful opening day for Canvey Island who overcame Bognor Regis Town by three goals to one thanks to a brace from Jay Curran and another from John Sands.

East Thurrock United were also off to a good start. A single goal from Lewis Smith earning the Rocks the points against AFC Hornchurch while Witham Town and Lewes fought out a 1-1 draw.
